Bronco murdered

Very late to this, but having blogged a time or two about the Broncos I should mention it. Rookie cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed early Monday. The News:

Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams became Denver's first homicide victim of 2007 early Monday when a shooter in a passing vehicle emptied a handgun into a limousine carrying Williams and several other passengers.

Williams, 24, died instantly of a gunshot wound in the neck, and two other passengers were injured shortly after 2 a.m. New Year's Day near West 11th Avenue and Speer Boulevard near downtown. Broncos receiver Javon Walker was also in the vehicle but was not injured.

No arrests had been made Monday night.

Denver police said that the shooting may be related to an earlier altercation at The Shelter nightclub at 10th and Broadway, where Williams was among several Broncos and Nuggets players hosting a combination New Year's Eve bash and birthday party for Nuggets player Kenyon Martin.

A terrible end to a lousy season.
