Colorado lawmakers express "grief" over treatment of Indians

This will fix everything:
Lawmakers approved a resolution Wednesday expressing grief over "the millions of deaths of American Indians caused by the European settlement of North America."

Rep. Debbie Stafford, D-Aurora, the House sponsor, compared European and American cruelties toward Indians to the Holocaust.
Rethugs to the rescue:

Rep. Kevin Lundberg, R-Berthoud, though, said the resolution ignored instances where Indians and settlers lived together peacefully. He also rejected the Holocaust comparison. The House approved the measure 59-4, with Lundberg and three other Republicans casting the no votes.

Opposition was greater in the Senate, where the resolution passed by a 22-12 vote, with all but three Republicans voting against it. Sen. Suzanne Williams, an Aurora Democrat who is a registered member of the Comanche tribe, brought the resolution in the Senate.

"As we recognize our past, we will be able to move forward," she said.

Yeah, sure.
Sens. Andy McElhany and Bill Cadman, both Colorado Springs Republicans, spoke against the resolution, saying that it painted all European settlers with the same brush.

Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver, said it was the right thing to do.

"That's part of what adult nations do," Romer said. "They come to terms with the horror of their past."
We're doomed.
