From the National Weather Service for
Denver, August 2008:
SEVERAL DENVER WEATHER RECORDS WERE ESTABLISHED DURING AUGUST 2008. FIRST OF ALL...THE STREAK OF 90 DEGREE DAYS ENDED AUGUST 5TH FINISHING WITH A TOTAL OF 24 CONSECUTIVE DAYS. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 18 SET IN 1874 AND AGAIN IN 1901. IN THE STREAK WERE 2 RECORD 100 DEGREE READINGS.
Don't know why they feel the need to shout. Maybe the text is fresh off the
teletype machine. Or maybe they just want to emphasize that it was HOT. On the other hand:
TWO RECORD LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE ALSO SET: ON THE 15TH...59 DEGREES SURPASSING THE OLD RECORD OF 68 SET IN 1880 AND ON THE 16TH...58 DEGREES BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 63 DEGREES SET IN 1890. THE MONTH FINISHED WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 71.4 WHICH WAS 0.3 BELOW NORMAL. . . .
Below normal? Pansy-ass global warming. It was also wet (for Denver):
AUGUST 2008 FINISHED AS THE THIRD WETTEST AUGUST WITH A TOTAL OF 4.03 INCHES. THIS WAS 2.21 ABOVE NORMAL. A 24 HOUR PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS ESTABLISHED ON THE 6TH WHEN 1.29 INCHES OF RAINFALL WAS RECORDED AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
